BASES SE Workshop – Understanding your Client

April 17 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm UTC+0

BASES the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences
Price: £52.20
BASES credits: N/A
Booking deadlineTuesday 2 April 2024, Midnight
This is a compulsory workshop for those in the second half of Supervised Experience only and is a mix of case studies and practical experience. Spaces are limited to 8 delegates per workshop.

Delegates will be expected to outline the key features within a 10 minute presentation, identifying a specific client and how they assessed their client’s specific environment. The platform used for this workshop will be Zoom and will use a screen share facility for you to share your presentation.

This could include a client needs analysis, what information was sought and how this was reflected in their ways of working with this/these client(s), demonstrating an understanding of the unique challenge of their client and the difficulties to be overcome, tailoring their practice to suit the client’s needs.

5-10 minutes are allocated at the end of each presentation for questions. Delegates are expected to ask questions of other presentations. The facilitator will not be providing formal feedback on the presentations.

How your presentations should address the learning outcomes

A client needs analysis:

  • what information was sought and how (evidence or practice-based?)
  • how this was reflected in their ways of working with the client

Demonstrate an understanding of the unique challenge of the client:

  • difficulties to be overcome, examples of challenging issues that were or were not dealt with well
  • tailoring their practice to suit the client’s needs
  • role of communication and reflective practice on your effectiveness
  • ability to question and answer appropriately and with pertinence

Delegates should submit a reflective piece on the presentation within their next competency profiles submission.

Learning outcomes:

The aim of this workshop is for supervisees to present and reflect on a case study of work carried out during SE. The case study should demonstrate their understanding of their client’s environment as a whole and not a presentation on what they do. They should be able to take questions from other delegates and also ask questions on other presented case studies.

Presenter profile:

Dr Stacy Winter is an accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist with BASES, a Chartered Psychologist with the BPS, and HCPC Registered Sport and Exercise Psychologist. She has been a BASES SE and SEPAR supervisor for a number of years and provided psychological support to various sports and individual athletes.
