The Role

 

We are looking for a Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach to join our Sports Science and Performance team to be responsible for the fitness and physical development of our Men’s First Team players in the gym.

In this vital role, you will design and implement individual and team pre-training activation and post-training gym loading programmes in line with the on-pitch periodisation of the team, ensuring they are complimented. Progression of players’ physical attributes related to the gym loading will need to be reported to and analysed for key colleagues, highlighting where individuals can make crucial improvements.

You’ll use your considerable expertise to apply scientific principles and techniques with the aim of improving sporting performance, incorporating areas such as physiology, psychology, motor control and biomechanics and including nutrition and diet, sports technology, anthropometry, functional screening and performance analysis.

Your day-to-day

 

  • Lead the planning and structure of activation programmes – you’ll be empowered to drive our Men’s First Team activation programmes pre-training; managed as a team overview, with individual focuses based on specific player profiling
  • Devise and manage individual gym programmes – you will partner with our Lead Performance Coach to lead individual gym loading programmes that are focused on improving and maintaining the physical profiles of our Men’s First Team players
  • Measure and report on player performance – you’ll ensure we’re providing reports with objective information to highlight how players are performing in the gym; storing all gym programmes, weight lifted and reps in a format that allows us to pull useful data and insight
  • Design and implement visual assets – you will help to create and utilise visuals on our data interface to help colleagues gain a clear understanding of gym attendance and progressions
  • Assist with the creation of injury prevention programme – you’ll collaborate with our Lead Performance Coach to produce injury prevention programmes for players with specific injuries
  • Deliver rehabilitation programmes for injured players – you will work with colleagues to deliver the gym cardiovascular and strength programme for our injured players
  • Support with player screenings – you’ll assist in the reporting and delivery of screening players and you’ll develop strength programmes based on the information gained from screening and talking to individual players
  • Champion an interdisciplinary approach – you’ll proactively encourage an interdisciplinary approach of working within the department that includes close links to all areas of our club
  • Build impactful relationships – you will take pride in creating and maintaining effective and lasting relationships with our players and coaches to support the overall health and physical development needs of the players
  • Uphold high standards across the department – you’ll oversee the development and management of our facilities and equipment and you will assist in the creation and implementation of systems and methodologies to evaluate the success of the department
  • Act as a trusted ambassador for our club – you will ensure that you adhere to a strict code of confidentiality and you’ll approach your role with integrity and the utmost discretion

 


What we are looking for

 

  • Qualified and credible expert – you come equipped with a BSc or MSc in Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning or a related discipline and you hold UK Strength and Conditioning Association Accreditation (UKSCA) or NSCA, CSCS Certification or equivalent
  • Proven background in sport – you’ve got significant experience working with elite level athletes in a strength and conditioning based role – ideally in football or a team sport environment
  • Excellent experience in supporting elite athletes – you possess a demonstrable track record of providing rehabilitation and strength and conditioning services to athletes in elite level sports to enhance athletic development, improve performance, prevent injuries and ensure timely recoveries
  • Thorough understanding of sports science – your knowledge of various sports science and medicine disciplines and their impact on the training and performance of elite athletes is second-to-none and you have a very good understanding of scientific methods of trialling and validating assessment, monitoring and evaluation equipment and protocols
  • Experience operating within a multi-disciplinary team – you’ve previously worked collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Flexible and adaptable – you easily remain calm under pressure and you’re able to adapt to ever changing priorities and shift your focus as needed
