Climbing and Outdoor Sport Specialist Physiotherapist

Andy is a lifelong climber (31 years and counting) and has coached for over 16 of these, completing the Neil Gresham Masterclass coaching training in 2008 and gaining further coaching qualifications in the UK.

Climbing Physiotherapy was originally a sideline to his NHS and private Physiotherapy work, treating climbing friends, until lockdown. This gave Andy the opportunity to combine his two passions and become a full-time climbing Physio.

He is a specialist in remote Physiotherapy, which works incredibly well, due to his intimate knowledge of climbing, training for climbing and climbing specific injury.

Andy has written numerous articles for UKClimbing.com and Climber magazine and delivers professional development courses for Mountain Leader Training UK, the British Mountaineering Council and Association of Mountaineering Instructors as well as bespoke courses for climbing professionals and businesses.

He has written a best-selling climbing injury treatment book (The Self Rehabbed Climber) and designed an ergonomic training aid that gets your fingers stronger in a safer way (The Unlevel Edge) and 3D printed finger splints for pulley injuries.

If injury does occur you need to train around/with it, not stop. After all rehab is just training in the presence of an injury.

The two worlds (Physio and coaching) overlap, a lot. They are not just about knowledge, but supporting individuals to apply that knowledge in a way that is meaningful to them.

These areas are brought together when I treat people: Intimate knowledge of the sport and its demands, sports science, strength and conditioning principles, the diagnostic skills of a Physiotherapist and a supportive, holistic, approach that empowers you to take control of your injury with confidence.
